Details of the XC competition...

Competition dates:

Competitors should arrive on Sunday the 4th of February 2007, as Sunday is registration day. Registration will start at 3 PM. The first task will be on Monday the 5th. Six competition days will find us ending the comp on Saturday 10th of February 2007. Accommodation is granted for Saturday's night, so that you can check out on Sunday.

Location:

The competition will be held in Casabito, a beautiful site in the upwind side of the Cordillera Central. The flying is superb with plenty of options for all levels of pilots. There is a main highway along the most common XC routes, so retrieves are expected to be fast and easy. See the flying sites page for more information on the 2007 Caribbean XC Challenge destination.

Competition format:

The Ozone Caribbean XC Challenge has the most open and simple format possible. It's all about flying XC the way you love to fly! There are no tasks, no goals and no windows...

After a general briefing on the flying sites, local conditions, and retrieve procedures, pilots will arrive at takeoff everyday for a weather briefing and will be free to takeoff whenever they consider appropriate. They will fly XC either alone or in groups, as they wish, and will choose their course with a maximum of three turn points.

Turn points will not need to be declared beforehand, allowing competitors to make dynamic decisions during their flight, according to the evolution of the conditions.

The scoring software automatically calculates the best distance for each GPS track and scores points for each kilometer.

Further details on the format of the Ozone Caribbean XC Challenge are given on the Rules page.

Categories:

The event is designed for experienced XC pilots and also for those who are still trying to master the arts of distance flying. Accordingly, there will be five different categories:

DHV AFNOR CEN
Category 1 1 A
Category 2 1/2 B
Category 3 2 Standard C
Category 4 2/3 Performance D
Category 5 Open Class (DHV 3, comp gliders, load tested only)

The competition will score on one common open ranking, but prizes will be granted for each category equally!

Prizes:

Ozone will award prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each class! Ozone kites and other accessories will be awarded.
